General information:
Uniescie is a fishing settlement adjoining from the west to the larger
locality of seaside resort Mielno, which population is about 4900.
Uniescie lies both on the sea shore and on the north-west bank of
Lake Jamno (area 2232 ha and depths up to 3.9m). Once upon a time
there was the sea bay liable to silt. This creates peninsula separated
by the sea from the lake. The first written record about Uniescie
fishing village is dated 1266. At present, there is a beach fishing
boat harbour called Uniesty. The harbour is only of local importance.
Fishermen catch cod, flounder, salmon-trout, salmon in the sea and
bream, pike-perch, eel in the lake. The catch is sold directly to
consumers or owners of fish shops or to middlemen who distribute
the fish in Mielno or within a wider area. Fishing facilities include
small chilled storage room, sheds for nets and outboards. |
