General information:
Stegna is a large fishing village and summer resort situated on
the western base of Vistula Spit, about 1 mile from the sea. Stegna
is an old Slavic settlement, mentioned by the chronicles as far back
as the 14th century, situated on the ancient amber trail. In the
village, worth seeing is a half-timbered church built in 1681-83
to replace the Gothic one. It has polychromed vaulting (restored)
from 1688, a pulpit dating from 1687, an 18th century organ and
presbytery dating from 1780. Together with Elbląg and Frombork,
Stegna is a venue for summer organ concerts. In Stegna they have
excavated Arabic coins dated 724-813. Worth seeing is the modest
old church founded in 1682. Stegna is connected by road and a
narrow gauge railway with Gdańsk. The beach fishing harbour is
117m long. Facilities include storage sheds for nets, outboard motors,
fuel and other supplies. There is chilling room for caught fish. |
